In the last few months, several incidents of fire in electric scooters in the country have worried everyone from the customers to the government. Videos of electric scooters of Ola Electric, Pure EV, Jitendra EV catching fire are going viral on social media. The Indian government also established a special committee to investigate these fire accidents in light of the rising number of occurrences.

Some media reports said that the Indian government is planning to impose fines on electric two-wheeler manufacturers whose electric scooters caught fire in the recent past. Now, a latest report states that show cause notices were sent to electric scooter manufacturers for incidents of fire in electric scooters. The central government is now planning to impose fines for allegedly using unsafe battery packs in those vehicles.

Recently, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had given a statement that his ministry has issued show cause notices to CEOs and MDs of e-scooter companies involved in fire incidents to show cause. He had said at that time that after the response of the companies, further action would be taken.

The Indian government is planning to impose fines on electric two-wheeler manufacturers whose electric scooters caught fire in the recent past. However, the report also said that the government does not plan to take any serious action against these companies, as the electric vehicle (EV) industry is still in its early stages. The government believes the fine will “act as a deterrent to companies compromising on quality.”

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) had also makers asking them what caused their vehicles to catch fire and why no action should be taken against them. The notice was sent following complaints of multiple fire incidents in e-scooters manufactured by Ola Electric, Pure EV, Okinawa Autotech, Jitendra EV and Boom Motors.
